Job Title: Technical Writer
Department: Engineering
Reports To: Sr. Manager, Product Engineering
Position Summary:

Self-starting, technical writer focused on creating content and layout of user manuals supporting our image acquisition and analysis instrumentation and software products. The successful candidate will have a passion for quality, as well as effective writing, interviewing and time management skills. A willingness to work independently and the ability to document rapidly changing technologies are essential to success in this position.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
  • Research, write and revise content for online and hardcopy end-user software interface and hardware manuals.
  • Interview subject matter experts, including engineering, field service, manufacturing, applications science, and marketing personnel.
  • Research available engineering information, such as drawings, design reports, equipment, and marketing/product requirement documents.
  • Write and/or copy edit engineering, service, and marketing materials for internal and external publication.
  • Participate in cross-functional team projects.
Qualifications:
  • 5-7 years of related experience in a high-tech environment.
  • BA or BS in Technical Communications, English, or similar field.
  • Effective writing, interviewing, and time-management skills.
  • Expertise in MS Word, HTML Help, Visio, and documentation graphics.
  • Experience with terminology, tools, and practices typically used in the technical publications field, specifically those relating to single-sourcing and content management systems.
  • A highly self-motivated and a solid team player with excellent oral and written communication skills.
